How to calculate your Life Path number

Your Life Path number is derived from your full date of birth using the Pythagorean reduction method. Here's how it works step by step:

  1. Write out your full birth date: day, month and year as numbers. Example: 15 March 1990.
  2. Reduce the day: 15 → 1+5 = 6.
  3. Reduce the month: March = 3. Already a single digit.
  4. Reduce the year: 1990 → 1+9+9+0 = 19 → 1+9 = 10 → 1+0 = 1.
  5. Add the three reduced values: 6 + 3 + 1 = 10.
  6. Reduce the total: 10 → 1+0 = 1. Life Path 1. Exception: if the total is 11, 22 or 33, stop — these are master numbers and are not reduced further.

What is a Life Path number?

What is a Life Path number?
Your Life Path number is calculated from your full date of birth. It describes your core character, the primary lessons and themes of your life, and the strengths and challenges you came here to work with. It is the most fundamental number in numerology.
What are master numbers in numerology?
Master numbers are 11, 22 and 33. They carry intensified versions of their base numbers (2, 4 and 6 respectively) and are associated with higher callings and more intense life experiences. Not everyone whose calculation produces 11, 22 or 33 is necessarily operating at the master number level — many will relate more to the base number until they mature into the full vibration.
Is a Life Path number the same as a destiny number?
No. Your Life Path number comes from your birth date and describes who you fundamentally are. Your Destiny number comes from the letters in your full birth name (converted to numbers using the Pythagorean alphabet) and describes your purpose — what you are here to do and become. They are different numbers that work together in the full chart.
Can two people have the same Life Path number but be very different?
Yes. The Life Path is the most fundamental layer, but the full chart includes Destiny, Soul Urge, Personality, Lo Shu grid and Vedic planes — all of which vary widely between individuals. How is Vedic numerology different from Western numerology?
